Using Q3Font

The program Q3Font is used to create the image and data files for the font you wish to use in your menus. Because it requires you to run it from a Command Prompt box and provide the file name of the font you want to use, I have created a Gui interface program, Q3FontGui, to make things easier. The files Q3Font.exe and Q3FontGui.exe must be placed in the same directory in order to work correctly. To create the fonts you run Q3FontGui.exe and will see the following :

To select the font, use the dropdown list. The text following the font name is in that font style. This program generates the three different font sizes (smallFont, font and bigFont) at the same time so you enter the sizes in the appropriate boxes. All three sizes must have a value greater than 0 for the file generation to procede. At the bottom you are shown the actual TTF file used to generate the font files.

When you have entered the correct information, click on the Create Files button. The files will be created in a subdirectory called fonts. Copy the files from this directory into the Quake 3 baseq3/fonts directory, overwriting any files in that directory. You may wish to touch up the image files in your paint program to let them look better in Quake 3.
